Youtuber Patrick Frey lives with his mother at a transport hub in Zurich. Suddenly, nothing is the same anymore when his account is blocked by an algorithm and the homemade strawberry jam is stolen from the cellar.
Wolfi is in his mid-40s and wants to revisit the good old days with his three best buddies in the Provence, where life is good. Little does he realize that his old chums are in the middle of growing up for real, bringing their wives and kids and all their everyday family problems too.
The episodic film tells the stories and experiences of different people in the city of Zurich on a Friday night. People who don't know each other meet at six different locations. Two young unemployed men want to rob a bar, Swiss and Germans play cards at a regulars' table, a Zurich scene-goer tries to overcome his inability to form relationships with the help of a psychologist, and a banker cheats on his wife. Characters who are initially characterized as clichés gradually gain depth and become human. "Nachtexpress" shows encounters that could happen every night in Swiss cities. People get together to drink, talk, argue, and love. "Nachtexpress" is a socially critical comedy—a folk play that deals with current issues such as latent racism, love, and inconsistency.
Three respectable citizens of a Swiss winter sports resort find themselves in financial trouble due to a lack of snow. When Paul, René, and Werner find the plan for the perfect bank robbery at the home of their deceased curling friend Heinz, they are willing to take the risk after some initial hesitation. The psychiatrist Simon embarks with his newly wed Paula on a wedding trip to Marmorera, the home of his ancestors. The body of a young woman is found on the shore of the reservoir. A little later, the same woman - alive but without an identity - was taken to the Psychiatric University Clinic Burgholzli in Zurich, where Simon works. The idea of the film is based on a true story: in 1954 the entire old Marmorera was demolished and flooded to prevent protests against the planned dam above the village. Only the cemetery with the bones of the dead was moved.
Mike Duerst gets dumped by his girlfriend, because she is pregnant by her former boyfriend. In his despair Mike gets in contact with Gregor Frank, a psychologist, who, in his radio show, claims to know all about women.Gregor promises Mike to find the perfect woman, if he agrees to be the subject for his upcoming psychological advisory book. Mike accepts. So Gregor explains Mike the typical patterns of women's behavior.
Melanie is planning the big deal with antique Mayan sculptures. The charming student always spends more money than she earns. To plug the financial hole, she has taken out loans on her beloved grandmother's farm - without his knowledge and with two different banks at the same time. But Willi Hubacher from the cantonal bank and private banker Doctor Tobler are on to her. They give Melanie six weeks to pay back the 160,000 francs - otherwise the farm will be put up for auction, and Melanie's flatmate Kolumbus finally gets the antiques delivered. Melanie already knows a buyer: her admirer, the French ambassador.
