In May 1993, Brazil experienced one of the worst economic crises in its history. The government then decides to set up a real task force to solve the problem. Confined to a bunker as a way of shielding the operations of growing political pressures, the special economic team will have to do its best to reach agreement and create the Plano Real.
Monarchists and Republicans confront themselves in Araruna, a small town in the interior of São Paulo, in 1886, two years before the promulgation of the Golden Law. Sinhá Moça's love story, daughter of Colonel Ferreira, Baron de Araruna, and a slave-boy, with the young Dr. Rodolfo, an active Republican abolitionist, faced with the difficulties of the campaign for the abolition of slaves. The two meet on the train, when Sinhá Moça, after completing her studies in the provincial capital, returns to Araruna. Like Rodolfo, she has abolitionist ideas and criticizes her father's attitudes, fighting for the defense of blacks. Sinhá Moça, together with Rodolfo and other abolitionists, invade the slave quarters at night and liberate the blacks, giving them to the abolitionist associations, which guide them towards freedom.
Flora is a happy housewife but suffer a serious accident and loses her husband and gets her face terribly burned. Depressed, she feels herself guilty for the accident, but her sexuality is still on so she hires men to fulfill her carnal desires. Among them is cynical and ambitious Romeu who makes her do whatever he wants. But by advice of her friend Suzana, she undergoes a plastic surgery and falls in love with her doctor, Romeu who is the lover of Suzana. Romeu and Suzana will do all they can to destroy this love.
