Four young men, Henry, Toft, Tam, and Klausen, take the train to Maribo, ending up at the prison gates. All four are serving sentences for drunk driving. They are a little embarrassed, but each has a good explanation for the "accident." They are "almost innocent" and therefore entitled to make the best of their voluntary "vacation."

That is why his wife Merete has not told him that she has pursued a career in the army and become a lieutenant. In Merete's regiment, Senior Sergeant Vasby suspects her of being a spy because of her "mysterious" conversations with NATO. This develops into an amusing spy hunt, and many people get involved. When Hermann is called up again, he "forgets" to tell his wife.
A motley crew must spend the night at a small, remote railway station. Strange occurrences and old stories about a ghost train that is supposed to pass through the station do not exactly contribute to a cozy atmosphere. However, the haunting turns out to be a ruse covering up smuggling activities, and one of the travelers turns out to be a detective on the trail of the smugglers. Based on the 1923 play The Ghost Train by Arnold Ridley.

Hounded by both the mob’s Don Luigi, who promised Viffer the hand of his shrill-voiced daughter Elvira as reward, and the betrayed sheikh’s thuggish enforcer Olfert, Viffer adopts a new disguise, suffers amnesia in a madhouse, and narrowly escapes to face the final showdown when Luigi and Elvira arrive in Denmark to collect on his broken promise.
Charming con artist Victor "Viffer" Hansen and his friend Richard Abelsteen pull off a million-dollar scam in Sweden. Disguised as Swedish diplomats representing the royal family, they swindle Italian businessman Vittorio Fercci out of 10 million Swedish kronor by arranging a marriage between the king and Vittorio's daughter Marcellina.
