A man sees the dark side of the time-manipulating biotech company he works for when a crushing debt forces his wife to give up 40 years of her own life.
Everything in architect Tom Pohlmann's life is optimized down to the last detail. He even works on his weakness, his panic fear of speaking in front of people, with the help of a psychology app - in parallel to his morning sports program. Sarah Wünsche's chaotic everyday life feels completely different: she is raising her twelve-year-old son Paul alone, working night shifts and fighting for a mini-loan to get her bankrupt kiosk back. In order for two such contrasting people to come closer together, chance has to come into play several times: first in a minor hit-and-run accident that almost lands Pohlmann in prison; and then in the children's ward at the hospital, where the notorious speeding driver is doing his community service. There he meets Sarah's son Paul, who is suffering from mysterious breathing difficulties.

Now Jakob has the job of transporting a valuable stud ram to Norway by car, because the ram doesn't like flying. Just before he sets off, Jakob's long-forgotten lover Julia calls and announces the arrival of her-their-12-year-old daughter May. The stubborn teenager has taken it into her head to visit the father she has never met. So May has to come along to Norway too. However, with an angrily bleating ram in the back and an arrogant 'goat' in the passenger seat, Jakob has much more than he can cope with.
Long-time friends Paul and Fiete are two traditional fishermen in a rapidly changing world. Of the long-established seafarers in their small Baltic Sea village, which the overzealous mayor wants to turn into a tourist stronghold, they are the last ones who still go out to sea every day. However, when Paul finds out by chance one day that Fiete, not he, is the biological father of his son Piet, their close friendship suddenly seems to come to an abrupt end. From then on, the two of them come up with more and more nasty things to make life difficult for the other. Piet, who has returned to his home country and is completely unaware of the situation, ends up in the middle of this petty war.
The spin-off to the original series 'In aller Freundschaft' focuses on the young doctors in a fictional clinic in Erfurt. In this emotional drama series, hospital staffers and patients navigate life's challenges.
