This was the first Battleground to air on Netflix in most international markets, and it was the first NXT livestreaming event to take place in Tampa.

The event was themed around the final matches of Keiji Muto, who was defeated by NJPW's Tetsuya Naito in the semi-main event, and by Masahiro Chono in the main event match. After the main event, Chono announced his own retirement. The event also featured the retirement match of Nosawa Rongai, who teamed with Mazada in a losing effort against Bullet Club (Taiji Ishimori and Gedo).

It will mark the first January 4 Tokyo Dome Show since 2007's Wrestle Kingdom I to be co-produced with another wrestling promotion.

CyberFight Festival 2021 was a professional wrestling event promoted by CyberFight for its four brands, DDT Pro-Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Noah, Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling, and Ganbare Pro-Wrestling. It took place in Saitama, Japan, at the Saitama Super Arena and aired live on Wrestle Universe. The card comprised fifteen matches, with the first three being part of the Starting Battle pre-show. In the triple main event, Miyu Yamashita battled Yuka Sakazaki for the Princess of Princess Championship, Harashima fought Jun Akiyama for the KO-D Openweight Championship, and Naomichi Marufuji took on Keiji Mutoh for the GHC Heavyweight Championship. Other prominent matches saw The37Kamiina (Konosuke Takeshita and Yuki Ueno) fight Kaito Kiyomiya and Yoshiki Inamura, a DDT team led by Sanshiro Takagi matched against the NOAH stable Kongo led by Kenoh in a 12-man tag team match, and Sugiura-gun (Takashi Sugiura and Kazushi Sakuraba) battled Danshoku Dino and Super Sasadango Machine.
