The film centres on Taro, an aimless indie filmmaker who gets convinced by Yuki, his girlfriend and financial sponsor, to attend a film festival in Beppu. There he meets the bubbly drifter actress Miki. Part travelogue, part self-reflexive comedy, the dynamic that follows this encounter delivers an ironic and realistic spin on Before Sunrise (1995), depicting two souls wandering around in search of life’s meaning.
The dynamic between Yuji and Kaede, a couple of young artists, is thrown out of balance when Yuji’s new video installation is reviewed one evening by an influential artist. Yuji tries to avoid a conversation, while Kaede feels obligated to promote her partner’s talent. A night that may change everything.
Aya, an erotic writer, lives with her boyfriend, Hajime, a company employee. Recently, they have been a little bit growing apart, and she feels somewhat unfulfilled. One day, Aya learns that the magazine to which she contributes will suddenly cease publication. That night, she is invited out for a drink by Tanaka, an editor whom she respects, and drinks deeply, losing consciousness. When she wakes up, she finds Tanaka in another room making intense love to a mysterious woman, Maria.
