A girl roams through the city looking for a place to sleep. Along the way she meets young mothers who celebrate motherhood religiously, goes home with an abstinent existentialist for whom sex is “just another market”, and waits for the end of capitalism in a drag bar. Her attempt to write a book doesn’t make it beyond the first sentence of the second chapter, and she finds no space between art galleries, yoga studios and the beds of strangers. Instead of trying to fit in, she starts regarding her depression as a political issue.
1981, Quiberon, a small village on the coast of Brittany, France. Hilde Fritsch arrives to visit her old friend who has retreated to a spa hotel to escape the daily pressures of her life. Her friend is world-famous star Romy Schneider, but together, they appear like two regular women who are just happy to be reunited. They carry the fatally wounded soldier Karl, who promised to guide them across the border to Switzerland. By the time they reach his families remote farm house, Karl has died and Peter and Heiner hope for Karls father to fulfill his sons promise. A snow storm forces them to stay at the farm house, causing highly sensible dynamics between the contradicting characters - sparking a chain of fateful events.

It is 1944 and Reich Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels narrowly escapes an assassination attempt on the way to Obersalzberg. It is whispered to him that his rival Heinrich Himmler is the mastermind and that he has also hidden a double of the propaganda minister. Goebbels sets off immediately. He meets his double, Harry Geduldig, in a mysterious fortress. There is a mix-up. The real Goebbels remains a prisoner in the fortress, while the fake one deceives the guards and escorts and frees his great love Grete Zipfel. At a party meeting in Nuremberg, the people cheer him on. But then the journey takes him into the lion's den: on the Obersalzberg he meets Hitler and finally "his" wife Magda. Harry risks everything to save Grete.
