Known for Acting
Best known for their megahit ’80s anthem "Don't You (Forget About Me)”—made famous in John Hughes’ The Breakfast Club—Simple Minds is one of the most iconic and influential Scottish bands in history. From working-class kids growing up in post-industrial Glasgow to rock stars playing Live Aid, this is the unlikely story of an extraordinary band that continues touring to this day.
Simple Minds performed at Les Nuits de Fourvière in Lyon on July 10, 2024. The band played their album “New Gold Dream” in its entirety, followed by a second set of their greatest hits. Acoustic in Concert is the sixth live album by Scottish rock band Simple Minds, released in June 2017. On the eve of the Acoustic album release on 11 November 2016, Simple Minds took to the stage at London's Hackney Empire to perform a special show for the BBC's Radio 2 In Concert series. The show comprised acoustic versions of some of their greatest hits and best-loved tracks along with cover versions of some of the songs that shaped them. The Hackney Empire show was recorded and broadcast by the BBC in association with Eagle Vision to be released in its own right as Acoustic in Concert several months later (in June 2017) on CD, DVD and Blu-ray formats.
The 1982 album was the Scottish band’s second on the Virgin label and the first to feature drummer Mel Gaynor (recruited after producer Peter Walsh declared himself unsatisfied with Mike Ogletree’s playing). New Gold Dream launched Simple Minds’ career worldwide and delivered the hit singles Promised You A Miracle, Glittering Prize and Someone Somewhere In Summertime. In 2005, Virgin released a DVD-Audio version that was remixed by Ronald Prent. All of the tracks except "Colours Fly and Catherine Wheel" and "Promised You a Miracle" (for which the multitrack tapes were lost) were remixed in 5.1 surround sound, and a downmixed 2.0 stereo version was created for DVD-Audio setups without surround sound. The DVD-Audio version contains the bonus track "In Every Heaven," which had previously been lost as it was not labelled properly on the master tape.
Once Upon a Time is the seventh studio album by the Scottish rock band Simple Minds, released on 21 October 1985 by record label Virgin (A&M in the US). The album has been rereleased in remastered form several times, most recently in 2015. In 2005, Virgin released the completely remixed album in DVD-Audio format. All of the tracks were remixed in 5.1 surround sound, and a downmixed 2.0 stereo version was created for compatibility with DVD-Audio setups without surround sound. The tracks on the remixed album differ in length in comparison to those on the original version, with most longer than in the original mix.
A breakthrough commercial success for the band, the record peaked at number 1 in the UK Albums Chart on 18 February 1984, and reached the top 20 in New Zealand, Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, and Australia. Receiving mostly positive reviews in the United Kingdom and the United States, Sparkle in the Rain was ultimately certified platinum in the UK by the British Phonographic Industry, and significantly increased media interest in the band. A Blu-Ray Audio package was released in 2015 that contained the original 1984 stereo mix along with Steven Wilson's 2014 stereo and 5.1 surround sound mixes.
On 27th November 2013 Simple Minds played a very special concert and filmed it at the brand new award-winning venue the SSE Hydro Glasgow, the first concert to be filmed there.
