The series focuses on neighborhood bond, telling the normal yet extraordinary story of a small town. In a small town in 1982, the town’s train station was the one place with the warmest human touch. Every day on the platform, there would be people happily reuniting or sadly parting ways. There was a small photo studio in the town, and its owner Li An-quan had two beautiful daughters—Wen-xiu and Wen-juan. They led a happy life. One day, Li An-quan suddenly left his wife and daughters without saying anything. They never heard from him since. After 12 years, Wen-xiu is now selling lunch boxes on the platform. Whenever she sees someone resembling her father, she will run after that person to see if it is really him, but she is always disappointed. Her father never returns, but her good friend Wu-xiong comes back after 12 years. After Wu-xiong’s return, a series of events take place in the small town, and Wen-xiu also encounters unexpected twists in life.
Idealistic and passionate rookie lawyer Yen-ching takes on the case of a death row prisoner Ming-te, who has been sentenced to death five times. Yen-ching, initially harboring no high hopes, begins to believe in Ming-te’s innocence as she delves deeper into the case. Firm in her conviction that law should represent justice, she submits extensive evidence to prove Ming-te’s innocence, only to be disregarded by the judges. Yen-ching soon realizes that she is not merely fighting against the legal system but against the inherent human nature of prejudice. Now faced with the challenge of toppling society’s deeply ingrained “presumption of guilt” principle, Yen-ching strives to save Ming-te from his imminent execution.
This story begins in 1943, and has the 228 Incident and "Land-to-the-Tiller" policy as its historical backdrop.
In 1999, a general trading company in Tokyo celebrates because Shinkansen of Japan wins priority negotiating rights for the Taiwan High Speed Rail. Haruka Tada (Haru) has been working at the general trading company for 4 years and she is sent to Taiwan for work. When Haruka Tada was a university student, she visited Taiwan for the first time during the summer. During that time, she happened to meet young Taiwanese man Eric and he showed her Taiwan for a day. She lost contact with him after that and she could not find him again. She then sealed away her thoughts about him in her mind. 6 years later, Haruka Tada arrives in Taiwan again.
