Xaver Bogenrieder, landlord of the Unterbräu, is laid to rest. At the funeral feast, the pretty widow Wally is courted by the pharmacist, the post office secretary and the professor. Now the brewmaster, who has long been a silent admirer of the widow, sees his moment. To show Wally who really loves her, he hatches a spooky plan together with the shepherd Sixtus. This leads to an intriguing story full of lies and blackmail, from which everyone involved tries to get out without losing face.
The story presents an entertaining as well as revealing portrayal of the moral history of sex in the course of human history.
