Emese, a wealthy old lady returning from Switzerland, invites her seven surviving classmates, all graduates of the 1930s, to a belated 50th reunion at her own expense. All but one of them live abroad, and they gather at the hotel on Margaret Island from all over Europe, where the hour of honesty arrives for all. During their days together, they confront themselves and their sins of the past decades. This is Hédi Váradi's last work for television, and her classmates Hilda Gobbi, Zsuzsa Gordon, Teri Náray, Juci Komlós, Erzsi Pártos and Zsuzsa Bánki all give excellent and long-lasting character performances.
This sarcastic drama is taken from the popular Hungarian novel by Tibor Dery. A terminally ill writer (Jozef Kroner) of national prominence watches as family and friends gather like vultures for his imminent demise. Relli (Alexander Bardini) smiles and pretends to be the writer's friend as he tries to get his hands on an unpublished manuscript. The opening scene is the highlight of the film. While the dead writer is being laid to rest in a national funeral, he emerges from the coffin and walks into his own grave while the mourners flee in terror.
After a tax inspection Sándor Radó, manager of a cartographic institute in Geneva called Geopress suddenly finds himself at the police station, where they withdraw his residence permit. This pestering makes him nervous, because cartography actually covers for a much more important activity: he is the head of the Soviet intelligence group in Switzerland.

Szegedi Anna, a lawyer having just arrived back from Naples wants to divorce his husband, also a lawyer, because since a hot night she has only been thinking of Laczkó, the handsome businessman.
The family consists of Géza, the father, a comical and inept figure, his wife Paula who actually dominates family affairs, pubertal daughter Kriszta and 12-year-old son Aladár, a child prodigy. The cat Maffia and a dog, Blöki accompany the family. Dr. Máris, their cynical neighbour, is regularly and unvoluntarily involved in disasters surrounding the family.
Molnár Karcsi, the former sport-pilot now sprays fertilizers somewhere in the country and feels that his present job is rather inferior. He is dreaming about limitless heights, but he behaves quite arrogantly with the people around him. He becomes estranged from his wife who waits for him patiently whenever he is away.
The young engineer and the pretty economist of a commercial company, on assignment in the country together, after having consumed quite a few glasses of brandy, wake up in bed together. As both live a happy family life, they wish to forget their passing adventure, but gossiping starts up around them.
