In the coastal region of Shonan, a young man enlists the help of a eccentric local pet detective to search for his missing pet cat. When the man is unable to pay for the detective's help, he joins the unusual agency to pay off the debt.
In Tokyo, lonely patrons pay to sleep ("soine") with someone. Massage, cuddle, sleep… for comfort and nothing more than the warm embrace of another. Tasuku, a young man fresh out of a relationship, starts a new job as one of the cuddlers. He's nervous and reticent, but soon finds himself with a procession of clients, male as well as female. In his unique position as their companion, he finds himself privy to the true selves they keep closeted. A man named Isaac (Isaku) struggles with guilt following a physical altercation that left another man in a vegetative state. A vision of Jesus appears before him, telling him to return home and seek forgiveness from the family of the unconscious man. He meets the sister of the man, who now struggles to take care of both the boy and her mother by selling her body. The realizations of cascading effects of his sin only intensify his feelings of guilt, and complicate his path toward atonement.
